12 injured after collision between lorry and bus on PIE

Although he had reported to work, Ravada Gouru Naidu felt a headache coming on, and his supervisor allowed him to go back to the dormitory to rest.  He could get a ride back on the company lorry, but since the cab was fully occupied by two other workers and the driver, Naidu climbed onto the back of the vehicle. A ‘mega rotor’ was already on the lorry. Resting on a pallet-like stand, it took up most of the centre space. Naidu made himself comfortable in a corner and off they went. Accident on Changi Coast Road leaves five Indian workers injured

Yet it has been the scene of some horrific accidents. On Wednesday, a crash between a lorry and a Mercedes-Benz car at about 4.30pm left five Indian workers with broken bones and other injuries. Passing motorists were horrified to find the workers lying on the side of the road bleeding from their wounds. The New Paper approached the driver of the car, but he declined to be interviewed, saying he was still in shock. Security executive Khairullah Jumala, 26, was in his car with his fiancée when the crash occurred. He was in the front-passenger seat while his fiancée drove, and their car was some distance behind the two vehicles involved in the crash. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the accident, which happened before the Jurong Town Hall exit in the direction of the city, at 8.56pm. The first of four ambulances arrived within five minutes after receiving the call, and no critical injuries were observed on site, an SCDF spokesman said. Of the 16 casualties, four were taken to the National University Hospital, and the rest to Alexandra Hospital. All of them were conscious when they left the scene, the spokesman added. The Straits Times understands that most of the men injured are workers travelling in the lorry. SUV driver in AYE accident arrested for drink driving

He was quoted as saying that the lorry had slowed down without warning and he could not brake in time.
