A BANGLADESHI construction worker has died after being flung from a moving lorry when a car crashed into the back of it.

The 36-year-old is believed to have hit his head after falling into a drain when he was thrown from the vehicle on the East Coast Parkway (ECP).

He died on Wednesday at the Changi General hospital, said a police spokesman.

The driver of the Audi car involved in the crash was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
He is out on bail.

Three other passengers were taken to hospital following the accident in the early hours of May 23, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

They included a 42-year-old Chinese national, who was also thrown out of the lorry in the collision, but landed on a patch of grass.

He was admitted to hospital with head injuries and went home about five days later.

The other two passengers were Bangladeshi men.

Both suffered lighter injuries and have also been discharged from hospital.

The workers were apparently on the way back to their hostel from the Universal Studios construction site in Sentosa when the crash happened in the direction of Changi Airport, before the Marine Parade exit.

A company spokesman told Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News that he rushed to the scene, and realised that the Audi driver had fled.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man, is believed to have surrendered himself to the police that night.

The spokesman added that residents from a nearby housing estate had heard the loud crash.

Some of them then came to help, bringing first-aid kits for the injured.

Police investigations are ongoing.
